A friend said to me recently, if I could explain how the cards worked she would be less leary of them, that they always scared her a little bit. This is my attempt to answer this question for her and anyone else who may wonder. I am drawing from many sources here, too many years of learning about the cards to admit to! But my first teacher, an other dear friend, taught me the most and some of this is echoes of her words from years ago.
The cards are archetypal images that elicit a response in us, an awakening, a remembrance, a cue to our subconscious mind to remember what we need to. Even before studying the cards, without knowing their traditional ”book” meaning you may very well know what you are being told. Clients will say oh! That’s my husband, or wow you just laid out my life in cardboard cards on the table!
The cards are divided up into major and minor arcanas (arcana is translated to mean “secret”). The major arcana shows us the souls journey, the bigger lessons in life-our deeper karma. This minor arcana which is broken down into 4 suits represents more of our day to day life, not necessarily minor in feel or impact, but more detailed, more of the minutia of life. Each suit representing an aspect of our travels.
The blogs below will break these down further. Let’s begin!
Our souls go through a journey of learning and growth while we are here. Many of us, my self included feel that we chose lessons before we were born to learn in this lifetime, working through our karma, ever reaching for, searching for wholeness.
The Major Arcana of the Tarot shows us images that reminds us of where we are on this journey. These are of course the universals that we all go through in this life, as our souls grow. Steps we all take. Just as we grow physically-learning to walk and run, or intellectually as we learn to move through our education, our soul grows and we share these steps across the board.Read More
